FAQs
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of focused relaxation where your mind is more open to suggestions and new ideas. It's a natural and common state we experience daily. For example, driving somewhere familiar without noticing landmarks, getting engrossed in a TV show or movie to the point of feeling strong emotions, or daydreaming and losing track of time.
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to address specific medical or psychological issues. A trained hypnotherapist will use hypnosis to help you achieve goals like reducing stress and anxiety, managing pain, controlling weight, and overcoming phobias or bad habits. Hypnosis creates a state where an individual is more open to new information and can make changes more easily.
Clinical hypnotherapy works by reaching the subconscious mind, that controls our thoughts and actions. Under hypnosis, we can talk to this part of the mind and make changes that might be difficult to make when fully awake.
In summary, hypnosis is a state of focused relaxation, and clinical hypnotherapy is the professional use of this state for therapy.
What can hypnosis help with?
Hypnosis can help with various issues like anxiety, stress, depression, pain management, losing weight, improving performance, changing habits, sleep problems, fear, phobias, public speaking, helping wth PTSD and emotional trauma, goal setting, menopause to name a few.
Can I get stuck in Hypnosis and is it safe?
Clinical hypnotherapy is considered safe and effective. The state of trance induced during hypnosis is taking to daydreaming. If the hypnotherapist unexpectedly stops a session, you will naturally emerge from the hypnotic state on your own as you would after a short nap. You remain in control of your thoughts and actions and can’t be made to do anything against your will including clucking like a chicken.
It is important to know that going into hypnosis is a voluntary and cooperative experience between you, the client and the hypnotherapist. You can choose to end the session at any time, and you retain full awareness and control throughout the process.
What happens during a session?
During a hypnotherapy session, the hypnotherapist will begin with an initial consultation to discuss your goals and medical history. The session then involves guiding you, the client into a relaxed, focused state using various techniques, such as progressive relaxation, imagery, or controlled breathing. Once you are in a state of hypnosis, the hypnotherapist will make suggestions or explore underlying issues, depending on the treatment goals. The session will end with you being gradually brought back to full awareness.
How many Hypnotherapy sessions are needed?
The number of sessions required will vary depending on you and the issue being addressed. Some people may experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, while others may need ongoing treatment over a longer period. On average clients might require between 4 to 8 sessions.
